Dr. A. V. Baliga Institute of Social Sciences and Rural Management was established under the aegis of Dr. A. V. Baliga Charities. The institute is located in a 23-acre campus at Haradi, near Brahmavar, and is affiliated to the Mangalore University. It is on the same campus as Kamal A. Baliga Rural Medical Center and ‘Ashraya – Home for Senior Citizens’. Hence, this campus provides the ideal ambience for students to gain knowledge in their chosen subjects - social work and community development. The institution is supported by our hospital, located just 14 kms away, through the Psychiatry Center, the De-addiction Center and the Family Counseling Center.

The main objective of establishing this institution has been to create a like-minded work force to provide counseling and quality health services. The focus is towards building capabilities to carry out community development projects, especially for the rural populace.

Facilities:

The institute has very good infrastructure that includes a fully equipped Computer Lab, Audio-Visual Center, Library, Indoor Games Facility and a huge playground. The Institute also arranges for students to get practical experience by conducting regular Medico Social Welfare activities like Healthcare Camps, Alcohol De-addiction Camps, Psychiatry Camps and Health Awareness Programs. All of of these are done in collaboration with our hospital.

B.S.W (Bachelor of Social Work) Course:

The course is aimed at students wanting to take up Social Work as a profession. Its a career choice that aims to help people, communities and societies to develop to their full potential. Social workers help people with their personal and social problems; they aid in access to community resources and work towards developing community support networks.

Eligibility:

All candidates who have passed Pre-University Examination conducted by the Pre-University Board or any other examination considered equivalent by Mangalore University.

Duration of Course:

Duration of study of the B.S.W Course shall be 3 academic years.
